Between my experience in school and through my personal passions, writing has always felt like a natural strength for me. The below examples are divided up by my academic work and my creative writing, with short descriptions beneath.

Color Grading in Film: How Complementary Colors Affect an Audience's Perception of Mood
For my Communication departmental honors requirements, I had to develop and successfully defend a senior thesis. My thesis focused on color grading in film and was a culmination of my background with post-production and communication theory. The research I completed for my study helped defend my hypotheses and allowed me to create information that can be used for future researchers. I successfully defended my thesis on April 27, 2018.

The Doctor
"The Doctor" is my favorite short I've written, and I can't quite explain why. Getting into this darker mindset was fun, and I knew going into it, I wanted the main character's motives to be hidden from the audience until the end. Trying to write a main character that was both good and evil was a challenge that I was happy to overcome after the third of fourth draft. My favorite scene is the climax when the Doctor administers the medicine that kills the inmate, because I feel confident in my ability to project the emotion felt by the character into the audience.

Soggy Cardboard
The idea for "Soggy Cardboard" was inspired by a short film called, "The Irrational Fear of Everything." I was incredibly inspired by the character in the film and from there, Philip was born. My favorite part of this story would have to be the first few pages when it describes Philip's morning. It was fun to get inside the head of a character like this and writing him felt very easy.

The Hermit
"The Hermit" began when I stumbled upon the knowledge that homes in 18th century England would have live-in hermits. It was fascinating to read into the history behind this trend. I'd also never written a story set in the past, specifically Old-English, so it was a fun challenge to flesh out. The Tarot cards began as a small character trait for Garrick, and soon became an integral part of the story as it digressed. It has led to future inspiration that I hope to put to paper soon.
